Andorra approves new state Bachelor’s degree in Tourism with a three-year programme
The new degree will comprise 180 ECTS credits, include mandatory work placements and require courses taught in both Catalan and English
The Government of Andorra has approved the creation of a new state Bachelor’s degree in Tourism, a first-cycle university qualification that will become part of the country’s higher education system. The degree corresponds to level 6A of the Andorran Qualifications Framework (MAQ).
The approved decree establishes the minimum common requirements that higher education institutions will have to meet when designing study programmes for the new qualification.
The Bachelor’s degree will comprise 180 European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) credits over three academic years. The programme will be divided into six semesters, with 30 credits per semester.
Mandatory work placements and courses in Catalan and English
The degree may be offered in person, online or in a blended format, allowing higher education institutions to adapt the programme to different teaching models.
Practical training will be a compulsory part of the degree. Study programmes will have to include between 10 and 12 ECTS credits of mandatory work placements, giving students the opportunity to gain professional experience related to the tourism industry during their studies.
The decree also establishes language requirements. Programmes must offer at least six optional credits taught in Catalan, while a minimum of 12 compulsory credits must be taught in English.
The new qualification is designed to provide specialised training across the different areas of the tourism industry. Students will develop skills in analysing the tourism environment, managing services and teams, marketing and commercialisation, as well as designing sustainable and innovative tourism products and experiences.
The programme will also cover areas related to quality, sustainability and tourism destination management.
Career opportunities across the tourism industry
Graduates will be prepared to take on technical and management responsibilities in a wide range of tourism-related sectors, an industry that plays a major role in Andorra’s economy.
Potential areas of employment include accommodation and hospitality, restaurants and gastronomy, skiing and active tourism, health and wellness tourism, retail and shopping tourism.
Graduates will also be able to pursue careers in congress and event organisation, sports tourism, marketing and digital distribution, as well as tourism destination planning and management.
With the approval of the state qualification, the Government has established the academic framework that higher education institutions will have to follow if they wish to add the Bachelor’s degree in Tourism to their academic programmes.
