Andorra and Botswana have officially established diplomatic relations, marking another step in the expansion of the Principality’s international network. With the new agreement, Andorra now maintains diplomatic relations with 164 states, according to Foreign Minister Imma Tor.

Andorra establishes diplomatic relations with Botswana. There are now 164 states with which we have an official relationship, opening the door to cooperation,” Tor said in a post on X.

The establishment of diplomatic relations will allow the two countries to strengthen bilateral contacts and explore new areas of cooperation beyond their participation in multilateral organisations, particularly within the framework of the United Nations.

Climate action, environment and sustainable tourism

Andorra’s representation to the United Nations said the new diplomatic relationship opens the door to closer bilateral cooperation between Andorra and Botswana on several shared priorities.

Areas highlighted include climate action, environmental protection and the development of sustainable tourism — issues of interest to both countries which, despite their significant geographical and demographic differences, share an interest in preserving their natural heritage.
