Diesel prices in Andorra will be reduced by a total of 15 cents per litre from September 1. The Government has announced an additional 10-cent reduction, which will be added to the 5-cent discount already applied throughout August.
The new measure will come into effect on Tuesday, September 1, and remain in place until September 30, following an agreement between the Government and fuel importers and distributors.
According to the Government, the measure aims to protect consumers’ purchasing power and preserve Andorra’s competitiveness amid rising fuel costs and changing prices in neighbouring countries.
10-cent refund on the hydrocarbon tax
To make the additional reduction possible, the Government will promote an amendment to the law on temporary measures introduced to address rising hydrocarbon prices.
The amendment will allow for a partial refund of 10 cents from the special tax on hydrocarbons for diesel sold during September.
The mechanism will require fuel operators to pass the entire reduction on to consumers, ensuring that the tax benefit is directly reflected in the prices paid by drivers at petrol stations.
The additional 10 cents will therefore be added to the existing 5-cent reduction, bringing the total diesel discount to 15 cents per litre throughout September.
Petrol will maintain a 5-cent reduction
The measure will not apply equally to all fuels. Throughout September, unleaded petrol will maintain its existing 5-cent-per-litre reduction, without the additional 10-cent discount announced for diesel.
The Government says the measures are temporary and are designed to minimise the impact of rising energy costs on households and businesses while ensuring that Andorra remains competitive compared with neighbouring countries.
