Andorra reviews new immigration quotas ahead of announcements in the coming weeks

Andorra’s government has begun reviewing its general and seasonal immigration quotas and expects to provide further information in the coming weeks. 

Government spokesperson Guillem Casal outlined the plans without specifying how many permits would be available or when the quotas would be approved.

“We are at the stage of beginning the analysis”, Casal said, adding that the government would announce further details about both quotas soon.

Seasonal quota linked to December start

Regarding the seasonal quota, the minister said the relevant period would begin in December and suggested that the quota could be activated or published in November.

 However, Casal qualified that statement by saying he was speaking “from memory”, meaning it should not be taken as a confirmed timetable. He stressed that several weeks remained to address the approval of the quotas.

For now, permit numbers, conditions and application deadlines remain to be confirmed.

Government brought forward permits and expanded the summer quota

The government already brought forward permits and expanded immigration quotas this summer as businesses struggled to recruit staff. In June, it brought forward 250 permits from the general quota planned for autumn, after the spring allocation was exhausted.

Then, in July, the government approved 250 additional summer seasonal permits to meet staffing needs in the hotel and restaurant sectors. Those needs had remained unmet after the initial 500 permits were exhausted.
