Inflation rises to 4.8% in Andorra, up half a percentage point from July
Higher transport prices push inflation above Spain’s 4.3% and to twice France’s 2.4%
Inflation is gaining momentum again in Andorra. The preliminary Consumer Price Index (CPI) for August has reached 4.8%, half a percentage point higher than the rate recorded the previous month.
According to preliminary figures published on Tuesday, inflation had not reached this level since last April. Price developments in August were mainly driven by higher transport costs.
The increase also puts Andorra’s inflation rate above those recorded in its two neighbouring countries. In Spain, inflation stands at 4.3%, while in France it is 2.4%. Andorra’s rate is therefore half a percentage point higher than Spain’s and twice the French figure.
Half a percentage point higher in just one month
The August figures represent a significant change compared with the previous month. While annual inflation stood at 4.3% in July, the preliminary indicator now points to 4.8%, with transport among the main factors driving the acceleration.
Despite the latest increase, inflation remains below the peaks reached during the inflationary crisis of recent years, when the rate climbed to around 7%.
The surge in prices seen in recent years intensified particularly following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which caused major disruption in international energy markets and pushed up transport, energy and consumer costs.
The 4.8% figure remains preliminary and will need to be confirmed when Andorra publishes its final CPI data for August.
