Body found in Tristaina during search for missing British tourist
Police will have to identify the body and determine whether it belongs to the 28-year-old man who had been missing since Wednesday
Firefighters found a body in the Tristaina area, in Ordino, at around midday on Thursday, as part of the search operation for a 28-year-old British tourist who had been missing since Wednesday.
According to the Police, it has not yet been confirmed whether the body belongs to the missing tourist. Officers will have to formally identify the body and determine whether it is the young man they had been searching for.
The investigation was launched after authorities received a report concerning the tourist's possible disappearance. Officers from the Public Safety, Criminal Investigation and Judicial Police units, as well as the International Cooperation Office, began working to establish his whereabouts.
With the assistance of the Fire and Rescue Service, an initial search was carried out in urban areas, while investigators worked to reconstruct the route the young man may have taken.
Helicopter and drone deployed in Tristaina
On Thursday morning, investigators obtained more precise information indicating that the missing man may have been in the Tristaina area. Based on this new information, a search operation involving a helicopter and a drone was launched.
At around midday, a member of the public alerted firefighters after spotting what appeared to be a person lying lifeless in the area. Emergency crews were deployed to the location and subsequently found the body.
Police must now complete the identification process to confirm or rule out whether the body belongs to the 28-year-old British tourist who had been missing since Wednesday.
The investigation remains ongoing pending formal identification of the body and clarification of the circumstances surrounding the death.
