“We will not find new solutions through the perspective that created these problems”

The president of Concòrdia, Cerni Escalé, has called for a new political era in Andorra that would also transform the interests governing the country.

Speaking to La Veu Lliure, he argued that the next general election should pave the way for renewal to address the Principality’s economic and social challenges.

The lawmaker questioned whether a shift was taking place on the issues he considers most important for Andorra’s future. “There is no change in direction on the truly important issues, those affecting the economy and social cohesion,” he said.

Changing the interests that govern the country

The renewal Escalé advocates goes beyond replacing the people leading the institutions. The president of Concòrdia linked political change to the need to transform the interests shaping the country’s direction and its response to its problems.

He argued that Andorra needs to enter a new political era. “We need political change,” he said, adding that this must involve “changing the interests that govern our country.”

The Concòrdia leader’s argument therefore focuses both on who governs and on the perspective guiding their decisions. He said that addressing today’s challenges requires a different approach from the one that helped create them.

The general election as an opportunity for renewal

Escalé identified the next general election as the opportunity to make this change possible. He stressed the need for a fresh approach to issues affecting the economy and social cohesion, two areas where he sees no change in direction.

The lawmaker rejected the idea that solutions could emerge from continuing with the same approaches. In his words, new answers will not be found “through the perspective that created these problems and the interests that created these problems.”

On that basis, the president of Concòrdia argued that renewal is essential to addressing the Principality’s challenges. “Renewal is essential,” he concluded.
