“The Decathlon and Alcampo project will need 400 workers and should not have been authorised”
Escalé criticises the government for limiting immigration quotas while allowing new businesses with substantial staffing needs
Cerni Escalé has said that the commercial development in La Margineda, which he linked to Decathlon and Alcampo, is expected to require around 400 workers, according to the submitted project documentation.
In an interview on RTVA’s “Avui serà un bon dia” programme, the Concòrdia leader questioned the approval of the development and the consistency between the government’s economic policy and its immigration restrictions.
Escalé said that this estimate applied solely to the La Margineda project, which he described as “that large concrete structure going up next to the main road”, rather than to all the planned new businesses combined.
“The documentation submitted stated around four hundred workers,” he stressed. Referring to the retail development he associated with Decathlon and Alcampo, he reiterated that its staffing needs would reach that figure.
Limited quotas and new businesses that need workers
The leader criticised the government for restricting immigration quotas while allowing businesses that require large numbers of employees to open. In his view, these decisions create demand for labour that conflicts with the limits on permits.
Escalé linked this situation to irregular immigration, arguing that job opportunities continue to attract people despite administrative restrictions.
“When there is economic opportunity, people will come,” he said. His criticism centres on the argument that immigration policy cannot be separated from decisions about which businesses are authorised to operate in the country.
“If there is no added value, it should not be authorised”
Escalé argued that approval for new businesses should depend on their contribution to the country. “Activities that do not contribute to the country should not be authorised. If there is no added value, it should not be authorised,” he said.
He explicitly opposed the La Margineda retail development: “It is a development that should not have been authorised.”
The Concòrdia leader thus places the debate beyond the size of immigration quotas, calling for an assessment of which businesses create additional demand for workers and what benefits they bring to Andorra.

Que s'obri un Decathlon afavoreix molt a la gent del país amb rendes baixes, no veig el problema. Alcampo dependrà si posa preus com els que té a Espanya, o si fa com la resta de supermercats del país i vend més car.

Que obrin més establiments no es un problema. El problema es que a Andorra els empresaris volen pagar sous de merda, i si hi ha més oferta de botigues ho tindran que fer. Benvinguts.

Que paguen bien y ya verán como tienen trabajadores. Alquileres caros hay en todos lados. El problema es que antes la gente subía a Andorra a trabajar porque ganaba mucho más que en España o Portugal y ahora no vale la pena.
Absolutament paradoxal que s'hagi de limitar el flux migratori a causa del col·lapse poblacional, i que per contra, tant Govern com la CEA, no afluixin en autoritzacions d'obertura de grans comerços i plaçes hoteleres, així com la pressió exercida per a portar-ho a terme, respectivament.
