Police find no apparent signs of criminal activity in La Querola fire in Ordino

The first forensic examination of the scene of the fire at La Querola in Ordino has found no apparent signs of criminal activity.

Police entered the buildings on Thursday, 24 September, alongside firefighters and the Andorran Government’s Department of Industry, after the fire had been extinguished and the area secured.

Investigators are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the blaze, which burned through part of the residential complex on Tuesday. 

The initial assessment does not close the investigation or establish the cause of the fire, and inquiries will continue over the coming weeks.

Investigators had already identified the possible area of origin

The police investigation began on the day the fire broke out. During their initial work, specialists identified the approximate area where the blaze was believed to have started before spreading to the rest of the affected site.

With the fire extinguished and conditions safe enough to enter, teams have now been able to examine the buildings’ interiors. During this first inspection, they assessed the scene without finding any apparent signs of criminal activity.

Low overnight temperatures helped bring forward the forensic examination from its initially planned timing.

La Querola remains cordoned off as the investigation continues

The residential complex remains sealed off, with a security perimeter in place to preserve the scene while investigative work is carried out.

The investigation will proceed through the judicial process. Specialists will continue gathering and analysing evidence over the coming weeks to determine the origin and circumstances of the La Querola fire.
