How will La Vuelta affect Andorra on August 25? Key road closures and timings
The race will cover 104.8 kilometres entirely within the Principality and will require major traffic restrictions throughout the day
Andorra will once again become one of the main focuses of international cycling on Tuesday, August 25, when La Vuelta returns to the Principality for a stage covering the country from start to finish. The race, one of cycling’s three Grand Tours alongside the Tour de France and the Giro d’Italia, will feature an unprecedented 104.8-kilometre circular route entirely within Andorra.
The stage will be particularly distinctive because, for the first time, the start and finish will be at the same location, on Tarragona Avenue in Andorra la Vella.
According to Andorra Turisme, La Vuelta also represents an important international platform for promoting the Principality as a cycling destination. The 2025 edition reached 190 countries, generating 187 million hours of television viewing worldwide, with 78% of television consumption taking place outside Spain.
This year’s race has around 1,200 accredited journalists and 600 media outlets covering television, radio, print and digital platforms.
Four mountain passes over 104.8 kilometres
The stage will feature four mountain passes. Riders will have to tackle Envalira, Beixalís and Coll d’Ordino, all classified as first-category climbs, as well as La Comella, a third-category climb.
Teams will gather and the signing-on ceremony will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the Parc Central car park. The neutralised start from Tarragona Avenue is scheduled for 2:40 p.m.
The first riders are expected to return to Andorra la Vella at around 5:30 p.m., after completing the entire circular route.
The estimated times are 3:39 p.m. at Envalira, 4:25 p.m. at Beixalís, 4:59 p.m. at Coll d’Ordino and 5:25 p.m. at La Comella.
Parc Central to host the Vuelta Park
During the event, Parc Central in Andorra la Vella will host the Vuelta Park, which will be open from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The press centre will be located at the Andorra la Vella Congress Centre and will operate from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The advertising caravan will leave at noon and follow a different route from the cyclists, using roads open to traffic.
Nearly 380 personnel deployed for security
The road and medical safety operation will be coordinated from the Advanced Command Centre, located at the Prat del Rull administrative building.
Nearly 380 personnel will take part in the operation, including 140 police officers, 127 traffic officers from all of Andorra’s parishes, 60 volunteers and around 50 members of services such as COEX, Mobility, Fire and Rescue, SUM and the Red Cross, among others.

Around 70 officers from Spain’s National Police and Guardia Civil will also take part, as they accompany La Vuelta throughout its different stages.
A total of 1,500 barriers will also be installed along the route to strengthen safety measures.
Road closures from 1:00 p.m.
La Vuelta will cause significant disruption to the Principality’s road network. Roads along the route will be progressively closed from 1:00 p.m., following the arrival of the police lead vehicle displaying red flags.
From that moment onwards, no vehicles will be allowed to pass, including bicycles. Roads will reopen after the police vehicle displaying green flags has passed.
One of the most affected areas will be the CG-2 between Encamp and Canillo, as the riders will pass through this section three times. The road could remain closed for approximately three hours.
Mobility is advising people who need to travel through the affected areas to complete their journeys before the closures or wait until after 6:00 p.m.
Tarragona Avenue to remain closed for 24 hours
In Andorra la Vella, Tarragona Avenue will be closed between the La Comella and Km 0 roundabouts from 10:00 p.m. on Monday, August 24, until 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25.
The closure will allow the infrastructure for the stage start and finish to be installed and dismantled.
Residents and businesses affected by the closure will be able to access their private car parks until 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The car parks at Parc Central, Prada Casadet and Prada Guillemó will be reserved for vehicles belonging to the organisation, teams, media and other services involved in the event.
In view of the expected disruption, Mobility recommends planning journeys in advance, checking traffic conditions through the department’s app or website, using public transport whenever possible and prioritising remote work.
