Man sleeping outdoors in Andorra for days as he waits to return to France

A resident has raised awareness on social media about the situation of a man who has reportedly been sleeping outdoors for several days in French territory, just across the border from the Pas de la Casa, while waiting to have enough money to continue his journey in France.

Facundo Lara, who shared the case publicly, said he decided to approach the man and speak to him personally to learn more about his circumstances. According to what the man told him, he currently has no money and must wait until the 5th, when he expects to receive an allowance from France.

“I spoke to him, and he told me that he has no money until the 5th, that he will return further into France and that he has already been sleeping on the street for several days,” Lara explained on social media.

Images shared online appear to show the man sleeping outdoors in an area surrounded by vegetation, with some of his belongings beside him.

Sleeping just across the French border

Lara later provided further details about the man's location. According to him, the man is staying on the French side of the border, immediately after leaving the Pas de la Casa, in the area behind the ITE store, where Lara went to check on him personally. 

“I went there, spoke to him and brought him a coffee and some water. He told me that he will not receive his allowance in France until the 5th and that he has nowhere to stay,” Lara said. 

The location is therefore not in Andorra, but in French territory close to the Andorran border, just a short distance from the Pas de la Casa.

According to Lara’s account, the man plans to remain in the area while waiting to receive the money that would allow him to travel further into France.

Lara says he contacted the Police and Red Cross

Lara says he has also attempted to obtain assistance from different organisations. According to his account, he contacted the Police and the Red Cross, although these efforts have so far not resulted in an accommodation solution for the man.

“I spoke to the Police and nothing; the Red Cross, neither,” Lara said.

He also described his impression of the man after speaking with him. “You can tell he is a good person, he is educated and kind,” he said.

Lara used his social media post to make an appeal to anyone willing to help the man over the coming days, indicating the area where he can currently be found while he waits to receive his allowance.

For now, the circumstances that led the man to sleep outdoors have not been independently verified, beyond what he reportedly told Lara. Based on the information made public, there is also no indication that he currently has alternative accommodation available before the 5th.
