The Government of Andorra has approved a new bachelor's degree in Video Game Design and Development at Tech Global University, introducing a fully online university programme designed to train professionals for the video game industry.

The decision was formalised through Decree 428/2026 of 28 October, following a favourable accreditation assessment by the Andorran Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (AQUA).

The new university qualification will consist of three academic years, divided into six semesters, with a total of 180 European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) credits.

One distinctive feature of the programme is its language distribution: 159 credits will be taught in Spanish and 21 in English, with no modules scheduled to be delivered in Catalan.

The approval expands Andorra's higher education offering in technology, software development and digital entertainment.

Artificial intelligence, programming and 3D animation

The new bachelor's degree aims to prepare students for the different stages of video game creation, from initial concept development to programming, technical design and final production.

During their first year, students will study programming fundamentals, video game design, interactive storytelling, mathematics, 2D animation and interface design.

These subjects will provide the foundations needed to understand game development processes and begin creating interactive digital projects.

The second year will focus on more advanced technical disciplines, including software engineering, three-dimensional modelling, physics for video games and character animation.

In the third year, students will explore artificial intelligence in video games, mobile game development, browser-based game creation and multiplayer systems.

The curriculum will also include business-related subjects, preparing graduates to manage their own projects, work within development teams or establish independent game studios.

A fully online bachelor's degree in Andorra

One of the defining characteristics of Tech Global University's new video game programme is its entirely remote learning model.

According to the government decree, all teaching will take place online, allowing students to complete the qualification without physically attending a university campus.

Enrolment will be organised annually, and students will be required to follow the sequence of modules established in the official curriculum.

Each teaching unit, except the final degree project, will be delivered over five consecutive weeks.

Assessment will combine knowledge validation tests and continuous assessment activities, with different weightings depending on whether a subject is primarily theoretical or practical.

To graduate, students must also complete a 12-ECTS final bachelor's degree project, including an oral defence before an academic examination panel.

The final project will assess students' ability to apply the technical and creative knowledge acquired throughout the programme.

Students will have up to five years to complete the degree

Although the standard duration of the programme is three academic years, the decree establishes a maximum enrolment period of five academic years.

Students facing duly justified circumstances may apply to the university rector for an exceptional extension of up to two additional years.

This arrangement provides flexibility for students who need more time to complete the required 180 ECTS credits.

The degree will prepare graduates for various professional roles in the video game industry, including game programming, level design, 2D and 3D animation, artificial intelligence, digital production and quality assurance.

The combination of technical and creative subjects is designed to provide a broad understanding of contemporary video game development.

Andorra expands its university offering in technology and gaming

The approval of the new qualification introduces a specialised video game development programme into Andorra's higher education system.

Modern video game development brings together several disciplines, including computer science, mathematics, graphic design, artificial intelligence and audiovisual production.

Tech Global University's curriculum seeks to address these areas through a university programme combining software development, interactive design and digital content production.

Under Decree 428/2026, the Andorran Government has formally approved the university's academic programme following its favourable accreditation assessment by AQUA.
