A man of Andorran nationality who lives in France was rescued by Mossos d’Esquadra officers in the early hours of Sunday in Fontanals de Cerdanya after an alleged kidnapping.

Officers found him tied up and locked in a car boot. The investigation’s main theory is that the incident was linked to a financial dispute and the collection of a debt.

According to reports published by several media outlets, two French nationals allegedly attacked the man around midnight and forced him into a vehicle with French registration plates.

A local resident who reportedly witnessed the incident alerted police and provided the car’s registration number, allowing officers to begin searching for it.

Victim taken to Cerdanya Hospital

Several Mossos patrols began efforts to locate the vehicle. A police unit spotted it on the road, but its occupants drove off at speed in an attempt to evade officers.

The pursuit ended in the municipality of Fontanals de Cerdanya. The suspects allegedly abandoned the car and fled on foot through a wooded area. When officers searched the vehicle, they found the man tied up in the boot.

The victim had several bruises and minor injuries. Emergency services took him to Cerdanya Hospital for treatment. According to the information available, he was out of danger.

Investigators examine possible debt collection

The main line of inquiry points to the possible use of coercion and violence to collect a debt. Investigators are working to establish the victim’s financial circumstances and any alleged disputes.

The two alleged perpetrators have not yet been located. Mossos d’Esquadra are continuing their efforts to find them and make arrests, and may seek international police cooperation.
