Borja Thyssen’s lawyers reportedly respond to MoraBanc’s claim

Lawyers representing Alejandro Borja Thyssen-Bornemisza have reportedly responded to the claim filed by MoraBanc before the Andorran courts, according to information obtained by La Veu Lliure.

The son of Baroness Thyssen is also understood to have contacted the bank directly after the proceedings became public last July.

The development marks a change from the situation initially reported, when the Batllia, Andorra’s court of first instance, had to resort to a notice published in the Official Gazette of the Principality of Andorra (BOPA) to notify Thyssen of the proceedings, as his address and whereabouts were officially unknown.

For the time being, the content of the response submitted by his lawyers has not been made public, nor have the details of the contact with MoraBanc. According to sources, however, Thyssen has expressed a willingness to make the payments through an amicable arrangement.

The court order admitting the claim for consideration had been issued earlier, on 2 June 2026.

The Batllia initially gave Thyssen five working days to appoint a lawyer or legal representative to act on his behalf. Once that period had expired, he was formally summoned to appear in the proceedings and respond to the claim within 20 working days.

The ruling warned that failure to appear within the established deadline would result in him being declared in default, with the proceedings continuing in his absence.

Now, following the passing of the deadline in mid-August, Thyssen’s lawyers have reportedly responded to the claim, according to information obtained by this newspaper.

Thyssen also reportedly contacted MoraBanc

Alongside the formal response through the courts, Borja Thyssen is also understood to have contacted MoraBanc to address the situation.

The move comes after the claim became public in July. La Veu Lliure reported on 23 July on the existence of the official notice and the proceedings opened before the Andorran courts.

However, the official notification did not publicly specify either the amount being claimed by MoraBanc or the precise grounds for the lawsuit, meaning that these details remain absent from the information published by the Batllia.

It has also not emerged whether contact between the two parties has led to progress towards a possible settlement or whether any payment has already been made.

What the new information does indicate is that Thyssen has reportedly responded to the proceedings, is now represented by lawyers and has formally answered MoraBanc’s claim, while contact has also been established with the Andorran bank.

It remains to be seen how the proceedings will develop and whether the moves made in recent weeks will help bring the dispute between Borja Thyssen and MoraBanc towards a resolution.
