The crash happened at 8:54 a.m., when an AVE train travelling to Seville collided with an Iryo train that, according to initial reports, was stopped on the track.
Emergency crews continue working at the scene
Castilla-La Mancha president Emiliano GarcÃa-Page said rescue teams had not yet been able to reach the deepest part of the carriages. Rescue operations are continuing as emergency services treat the injured.
The crash has disrupted high-speed rail services between Madrid and Andalusia. The cause of the collision is under investigation.
The Government of Andorra says it has no information so far indicating that Andorran citizens or residents of the Principality are among those affected.
Andorra’s Foreign Ministry is in contact with the Spanish authorities and has set up two consular assistance phone lines: 875 704 and +376 324 292. The investigation into the cause is ongoing, and high-speed rail services between Madrid and Andalusia remain suspended.
