The Carmen Thyssen Andorra Museum is expected to reopen in the first quarter of 2027 at its new home in the Node building in Andorra la Vella.

The museum has confirmed to La Veu Lliure that it does not yet have a specific opening date, but that this is the current timetable, “barring unforeseen circumstances”.

The move will transfer the museum from the former Hostal Valira in Escaldes-Engordany to the new Andorra Telecom building on Avinguda Meritxell. The former venue closed permanently on 4 January, following the end of the Vincles exhibition.

A new space spanning almost 962 square metres

The new museum will occupy 961.81 square metres across two floors. The project includes a permanent exhibition room and an immersive gallery, with plans to incorporate digital and interactive formats into its cultural programme.

The museum’s latest reopening estimate places the launch in the first months of 2027. The exact date will depend on the progress of the work and preparations for the new museum project.

Madrid’s Thyssen schedules free guided tours

Madrid’s Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum has added free guided tours titled The Sea: A Living Legacy to its programme.

The tour explores works in the permanent collection and how different artists have portrayed the maritime world. Sessions will begin on 31 October and take place on Saturdays from 5 pm to 6 pm until January 2027.

The tour will cover subjects including nature, trade, fishing and the lives of people who work at sea. It features works by Claude Monet, Caspar David Friedrich, Canaletto and Natalia Goncharova, among others, as well as The Danger Signal, a painting by Winslow Homer created between 1890 and 1896. The programme was developed in collaboration with Grupo Consorcio.

New museum opening could mark Tita Cervera’s return to public life

In September, La Veu Lliure reported, citing a conversation between the baroness and El Mundo journalist María Eugenia Yagüe, that Tita Cervera planned to make a public appearance at the new museum’s opening, which was then expected in November.

The Thyssen’s opening in the Node building is now scheduled for the first quarter of 2027, although no exact date has been announced. The inauguration could therefore provide the setting for her return to public life.
