Two arrested over theft of four high-end cars in Andorra, all vehicles recovered
Despite an incident at a police checkpoint, no officers were injured
The Mossos d'Esquadra have recovered all four high-end vehicles stolen in Andorra in the early hours of Sunday morning, in an operation that resulted in two arrests, while two other suspects remain at large, after La Veu Lliure was the first to report the theft of the vehicles.
One of the most serious moments of the police operation occurred on the N-145, near La Seu d'Urgell, when one of the stolen cars crashed into a police vehicle.
The incident is believed to have unfolded at around 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 30, after the four vehicles left Andorra heading towards Catalonia.
The cars were travelling at high speed along the N-145, the road connecting the Andorran border with La Seu d'Urgell, posing a risk to other road users.
A Mossos patrol spotted the vehicles and raised the alarm, allowing officers to deploy a police operation to intercept them. The operation also involved officers who were already deployed in the capital of Alt Urgell for the town's annual festivities.
One of the vehicles crashes into a police car at the checkpoint
The situation escalated when the driver of one of the stolen vehicles ignored officers' instructions and attempted to break through the checkpoint. During the manoeuvre, the car crashed into a Mossos police vehicle.
Despite the severity of the collision, no police officers were injured. The driver abandoned the stolen vehicle and managed to flee on foot, while officers recovered the car despite the significant damage it had sustained.
The drivers of two of the other vehicles were unable to escape. According to El Caso, Mossos officers managed to stop them and arrest them at the scene. The two suspects are reportedly from Eastern Europe.
The driver of the fourth vehicle, however, managed to continue fleeing.
Fourth stolen car found abandoned in Badalona
The police operation continued throughout the morning until the Mossos managed to locate the fourth stolen vehicle in Badalona. The car had been abandoned on a street, with no sign of the person who had been driving it.
As a result, all four vehicles stolen in Andorra have now been recovered, although two of the alleged suspects managed to escape: the driver who fled on foot following the collision on the N-145 and the person believed to have abandoned the fourth vehicle in Badalona.
The Mossos have launched an investigation to locate the remaining suspects and establish the full circumstances surrounding the theft.
The Catalan police are working in coordination with the Andorran Police to reconstruct the events and determine the involvement of those suspected of taking part in the robbery.
