Investigation continues into attempted kidnapping of Andorran citizen in Cerdanya
The victim, who lives in France, was found in a car boot in Fontanals
Mossos d’Esquadra are continuing to investigate the illegal detention of an Andorran citizen in Fontanals de Cerdanya as an attempted kidnapping.
The victim, who lives in France, not Andorra, was allegedly approached, assaulted and forced into a car boot in the early hours of Sunday.
Investigators are working on the theory that the incident may have been linked to an attempt to collect outstanding debts. This has yet to be confirmed.
Suspects fled into a wooded area
According to the reconstruction of events, two French nationals allegedly approached and tied up the victim before putting him in the boot of a car with French registration plates. A local resident witnessed the incident and alerted police.
Mossos patrols were dispatched from Puigcerdà. One came across the suspected vehicle, which sped off to escape.
Officers later found the car, but its occupants had already fled and were believed to have taken cover in a wooded area. The victim was freed and taken to Cerdanya Hospital, where he received treatment for minor injuries.
The investigation remains open as officers try to locate the two alleged perpetrators and establish whether anyone else was involved.
Mossos have contacted Interpol to help find them. La Veu Lliure initially reported that an Andorran citizen had been found in a car boot after being detained.
