Andorran police arrested two people at the River Runer border over the weekend on suspicion of drug trafficking offences after allegedly attempting to enter the Principality with cocaine.

The most significant arrest took place on Sunday afternoon, when officers stopped a regular passenger bus at the border.

During the inspection, police found 11 grams of cocaine in the possession of a 30-year-old tourist, who was arrested on suspicion of a public health offence.

The arrest followed another detention carried out on Saturday morning, also at the River Runer border. In this case, officers stopped a 38-year-old tourist travelling by taxi and seized 0.8 grams of cocaine.

Both individuals were arrested on suspicion of attempting to bring drugs into Andorra and were placed at the disposal of the relevant authorities.

Driver arrested with blood alcohol level of 1.99

Police also arrested a 43-year-old man over the weekend for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

The incident occurred during the early hours of Saturday in Andorra la Vella, after the Traffic Service alerted police officers.

The driver recorded a blood alcohol level of 1.99 grams of alcohol per litre of blood, well above the permitted limit. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of an offence against road safety.

The three arrests form part of the police operations carried out over the weekend in the areas of public safety, traffic enforcement and the fight against the introduction of drugs into Andorra.
