Some attempts to discredit a news story end up exposing the contradictions of those making the accusations. That is what happened with Digital Andorrà, which attempted on Tuesday to challenge La Veu Lliure's exclusive reporting on the case involving the Crepero de la Rotonda, only to acknowledge in its own article that Andorra's Language Policy Department had initiated administrative sanction proceedings against the business owner.

The outlet published a headline claiming that the Language Policy Department had denied that the Crepero de la Rotonda had been fined for posting videos in Spanish.

Yet just a few lines later, the same article acknowledged:

“New administrative sanction proceedings have been initiated, and a proposed penalty is already on the table.”

It is difficult to imagine a more contradictory debunking: declaring a report false while confirming the central facts on which it was based.

La Veu Lliure obtained the official notice directly from the business owner

La Veu Lliure's original reporting was not based on rumours or speculation. The Crepero de la Rotonda himself, together with his accountant, provided the newspaper with a photograph of the official administrative notification.

The document contains a proposed €1,201 penalty and grants the business owner ten days to submit objections.

These are the documented facts of the case.

Meanwhile, Digital Andorrà based its supposed debunking on statements by Joan Sans, Andorra's Director of Language Policy, who explained that the penalty had not yet become final because the administrative procedure remained ongoing.

A routine aspect of administrative law was presented as though it were a revelation capable of invalidating an investigative report.

The fact that a penalty has not yet become final does not mean that administrative proceedings do not exist. Nor does it mean that the authorities have not formally notified the business owner of a proposed fine.

It simply means that the person concerned has the right to present a defence before the administration issues its final decision.

A proposed fine is not a final penalty, but the proceedings are real

There is an important legal distinction that deserves to be explained accurately: the Crepero de la Rotonda has not yet received a final, enforceable penalty, but administrative sanction proceedings have been opened and a €1,201 fine has been proposed.

La Veu Lliure's initial headline used language suggesting that a fine had already been imposed, although the administrative process had not reached its final stage. That legal distinction is relevant.

However, this clarification does not invalidate the document, eliminate the proposed €1,201 fine or make the underlying information obtained from the business owner false.

What is difficult to justify is presenting an article as a debunking while acknowledging the very administrative proceedings it supposedly disproves.

Readers deserve an accurate account of both the facts and their legal status, rather than a headline that treats the difference between a proposed penalty and a final decision as proof that no administrative action has taken place.

The real issue is journalistic accuracy

La Veu Lliure spoke directly with the business owner, obtained documentation through him and his accountant, and reported on a specific administrative action.

Days later, Digital Andorrà published an article challenging the legal wording of the original report while providing no evidence that disproves the existence of the sanction proceedings or the proposed €1,201 penalty.

Pointing out an inaccuracy and correcting it is entirely legitimate. What is questionable is presenting that clarification as a complete debunking when the article itself acknowledges the central facts.

Disproving a report requires demonstrating which facts are false, not merely explaining that an administrative procedure has yet to reach its conclusion.

The underlying issue remains unchanged: Andorra's Language Policy Department has initiated proceedings against the business owner in connection with his Spanish-language TikTok videos and has notified him of a proposed €1,201 penalty.

The business owner has the right to submit objections, and the administration must still issue its final decision.

That is the story. And the news outlet that attempted to discredit it has ended up confirming its essential facts in its own words.

Joder vaya llorera de tarde me has dado tu.

Sulli (not verified) — Tue, 3 Nov 2026 - 21:46

Poy, ets un impresentable periodístic. Has intentat fer-te el llest i has acabat demostrant que ni tan sols saps desmentir una notícia sense contradir-te tu mateix
