Virtus to run alone in Andorra’s 2027 general election
Treasurer Xavier Altimir criticises DA’s record and confirms the party will prepare its own national list for the 2027 election
Virtus wants to field its own national list in next year’s general election. Treasurer Xavier Altimir said the four years of government under Demòcrates per Andorra (DA) “have not been fortunate”.
Virtus will run alone in the next general election and, for now, rules out joining a centre-right electoral alliance. Xavier Altimir told RTVA after the party’s first public event, held on Tuesday.
Altimir voiced the party’s dissatisfaction with DA’s record in government during the current parliamentary term. “DA’s last four years in government have not been fortunate,” he said.
He also criticised what he sees as an executive that makes decisions in response to media coverage. “The government has been run somewhat according to the day’s newspaper headlines,” he said.
Virtus wants its own national list
The treasurer said most party members want to run their own candidate list, despite Virtus president Josep Duró having held talks with various parties.
“We want to run our own national list,” Altimir said, ruling out giving up the national constituency. The party plans to spend the coming months developing its organisation and the political platform it will take to the 2027 election.
Altimir also questioned the country’s growth model and how economic liberalisation was carried out. He said the policy had attracted some people he considers beneficial to Andorra, but also others who, in his view, had not contributed in the same way.
