Espot condemns La Comella femicide: “Violence against women has no place in our society”
The 34-year-old suspect turned himself in to Andorran police and admitted to stabbing his partner, a 51-year-old woman
Andorra’s Head of Government, Xavier Espot, has strongly condemned the suspected femicide that took place on Wednesday, 28 October, on the La Comella road in Andorra, where a 51-year-old woman was found dead after allegedly being stabbed by her partner.
The suspect, a 34-year-old man, subsequently surrendered to the Andorran police and was arrested in connection with the woman's death.
In a public statement on Thursday, Espot expressed the government's unequivocal rejection of the killing and stressed the importance of confronting violence against women throughout Andorran society.
“We unequivocally condemn the femicide committed yesterday. Violence against women has no place in our society,” the Head of Government declared.
Espot also emphasised that combating gender-based violence must remain a shared priority, requiring the commitment of institutions and society as a whole.
“Eradicating this scourge is a priority and a collective responsibility,” he stated.
Condemnem rotundament el crim masclista comès ahir. La violència contra les dones no té lloc a la nostra societat. Eradicar aquesta xacra és una prioritat i una responsabilitat col·lectiva. Expressem el nostre condol a la família i amics de la víctima. 🖤 @GovernAndorra

The Andorran leader extended his condolences to the victim's family and loved ones following a tragedy that has deeply shaken the Principality.
A 34-year-old man arrested after his partner was found dead
The events unfolded on Wednesday, 28 October, when Andorran police launched a search operation after receiving a telephone call reporting a woman suffering from a bleeding wound.
Emergency services and police officers were deployed to the area, where the 51-year-old victim was eventually found dead on the La Comella road.
The road was closed to traffic while emergency responders, investigators and judicial officials carried out their work at the scene.
According to information released by the authorities, the suspected perpetrator, a 34-year-old man, voluntarily presented himself at a police station and stated that he had stabbed his partner.
He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of an offence against human life under Andorran criminal law.
Several specialised units took part in the search operation, including the Citizen Security Unit, the Technical Intervention Unit and the Aerial Resources Section, with assistance from firefighters and Andorra's rural and environmental officers, known as Banders.
Judicial investigation seeks to establish the circumstances of the killing
The Judicial Police and Criminal Investigation Department is continuing its inquiries to establish precisely what happened and reconstruct the events leading to the woman's death.
The case is now under judicial supervision, and investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged killing and any resulting criminal responsibility.
Although the suspect reportedly acknowledged stabbing his partner when he approached police, the investigation remains ongoing and criminal responsibility has yet to be established by a court.
The authorities have not released further details about the sequence of events while judicial proceedings continue.
Women's organisations join condemnation of the killing
Espot's statement follows expressions of grief and condemnation from women's rights organisations across Andorra, which have also denounced the suspected femicide and expressed solidarity with the victim's family.
The case has renewed public attention on violence against women in the Principality, highlighting the importance of prevention, protection and institutional coordination.
For the Andorran government, the tragedy reinforces the need to address gender-based violence not merely as an individual criminal matter, but as a wider social responsibility.
As investigators continue their work, Espot's message has been unequivocal: violence against women must not be tolerated in Andorran society.
