Concern in Pas de la Casa over man sleeping rough on the French side of the border
A local resident who has remained in contact with him says he brought him food and drinks on Saturday and that the man is sad and feels alone
The situation of a man who has been sleeping rough for several days on French territory, close to Pas de la Casa, could be starting to improve. The local resident who has remained in contact with him and first brought the case to the attention of La Veu Lliure on Friday said on Saturday that efforts are now under way to help him.
La Veu Lliure exclusively published the first images of the man sleeping outdoors, just across the border between Andorra and France. According to the resident who spoke to him, the man said he would not have access to money until September 5, when he plans to travel back further into France.
On Saturday, the same resident provided an update on his situation and said efforts are being made to find a solution or, at the very least, provide him with immediate assistance.
“Good morning everyone, we are working on finding a solution or at least helping this person. Today I brought him some food and something to drink. He is sad, he started crying, he feels alone,” the resident explained.
Efforts to improve his situation over the coming hours
The resident said the next few hours could be important in temporarily improving the conditions in which the man is currently living.
“If everything goes well, between today and tomorrow we will be able to improve his situation somewhat,” he added.
The latest account represents a change from the situation initially reported. In addition to providing him with food and drinks, efforts are now being made to arrange further assistance so that he can get through the coming days until he has access to financial resources.
According to the information provided so far by the resident who has been speaking with him, the man expects to receive money on September 5 and then travel further into France.
The involvement of local residents and a business in Pas de la Casa has ultimately made it possible to find a temporary solution. The man will be able to stay for two nights at Hotel Merino, providing him with temporary accommodation while further assistance is explored.
The case first came to light after La Veu Lliure received images showing the man sleeping outdoors near Pas de la Casa, but already on French territory after crossing the Andorra-France border.
The latest developments now suggest that the mobilisation of people in the area could provide him with support while he waits to obtain the resources needed to continue his journey.
